I upgraded to Firefox 2.0 over the weekend as a release candidate for the new version of my "must have" Tab Mix Plus extension had been released. The upgrade seemed to go smoothly. Several extensions had to be disabled as they were not marked as working in Firefox 2.0, but I expected that. Unfortunately my theme was not compatible and the upgrade did not notice this. When Firefox 2.0 came up for the first time, the user interface was quite broken. This, however, was a easy fix -- change the theme to the Firefox default theme.

When I wrote about the new Internet Explorer 7 last Friday, I complained that I could not find an ad blocker for it. A Software Gadgets reader emailed me and suggested I try Maxthon. Formerly known as MyIE (I used MyIE years ago), Maxthon uses IE's HTML engine to display sites, but wraps it with a different user interface -- and it comes with an ad blocker that works something like the Ad Blocker Plus extension for Firefox. I downloaded the latest version of Maxthon and gave it a spin.

After over a year of hype, Internet Explorer 7 is finally available. I bit the bullet and downloaded it today. I created a System Restore point on my computer before I installed it, just in case, but the install went remarkably smoothly. It did take 5 or 10 minutes to complete, however.

IE 6 has a way to view and delete cookies, but it is very primitive compared to what can be done in current versions of Firefox and Opera. With any luck IE 7 will bring some much needed improvement to this area. However, even if it does, I doubt it will be as nice as IECookiesView from Nirsoft. IECookiesView is a tiny program that requires no install, but as a nice interface and a lot of powerful features. Here's what the Nirsoft web site says:
