Vulture's Eye -- Nethack with Nice Graphics

You've probably heard of Nethack (wikipedia entry). It is a rogue-like adventure game that has been under continuous, if slow, development since the late 1980s. It has great gameplay and more functions and surprises than most commercial "hack and slash" RPGs. Unfortunately, it has extremely primitive "graphics" -- letters, numbers, and other characters on a text screen just like in the 1980s when DOS was the operating system of choice. While this doesn't hurt gameplay a bit, it does mean that many people who would otherwise enjoy this game will not even give Nethack a try.

Vulture's Eye is a modern graphic version of Nethack. Vulture's Eye features very nice isometric graphics and optional mouse control instead of the characters and text screen of Nethack. The graphics are very nice and the game plays just like Nethack, so you get the best of both worlds: one of the best hack-and-slack rpgs ever made and graphical eye candy. Best of all, the Vulture's download actually includes a second game, Vulture's Claw, which provides the same graphics for Slash'em, the most popular variant of Nethack. The only real problem with Vulture's Eye is that its web site is down at times, which can be frustrating if you are trying to download the game.

The website issues have been fixed so you should not have these problems anymore. Also, 2.1.1 has (finally) been released and is available for download

I'm glad to hear the web site issues have been fixed. I'll give 2.1.1 a try ASAP -- the unix version this time.

I don't understand why everyone was/is so impressed with Vulture's but don't know about Falcon's !
