SkyDrive Explorer - Use Windows Live Skydrive From Windows Explorer

It's hard to beat Windows Live Skydrive from Microsoft with its 25 gigs of free remote storage. This beats any other free storage service I know of. However, it can be a bit of a pain to use as you have to go to the Windows Live Skydrive site in your browser to upload or download files.

This is no longer necessary thanks to Skydrive Explorer. Skydrive Explorer allows you to use Skydrive as a drive in Windows Explorer. While only in beta, this free extension for Windows Explorer already has the following features:

  • View the structure and contents of folders in SkyDrive™
  • View files information (type, size, creation date in GMT format)
  • Create new root folders and subfolders
  • Copy files into the storage
  • Delete files and folders
  • Copy files from the storage to the computer
  • Copy folders and subfolders from the storage to the computer keeping their structure
  • Use Drag & Drop for files operations
  • Rename files and folders
  • Create links to SkyDrive™ folders on your computer
  • Copy URL of the selected object(s) to the Clipboard

Skydrive Explorer is a very nice addition to Windows Explorer that makes Skydrive much easier for anyone to use. If your have friends or family members whose computer skills are limited, Skydrive Explorer will allow them to save and retrieve files from Skydrive using what they already know about manipulating files in Windows Explorer.
