I'm not much of a computer gamer. I tend to avoid the new, cutting edge, and expensive because I seldom play a game from start to finish before getting bored with it. One of the few that I really enjoy playing is an old DOS game from 1994 or so, Microprose's Master of Magic. Unfortunately, there was never been a remake or sequel for Windows. Master of Magic runs fine in DOSBox -- if you can find a copy.

My idea of video is watching a DVD, but if you make your own videos and are looking for a simple but functional video editor, you might want to give Avidemux a try. I saw someone on a forum (unrelated to video) say it was "basic, but simple to use -- and free" when someone new to video editing was asking about editing programs.

There are all sorts of free online applications for keeping lists. Ta-da Lists is simple and straightforward. There aren't a lot of bells and whistles, but then how many bells and whistles does a to-do list need?
From the Ta-da Lists web site:
Ta-da makes it easy to...
* Keep track of all the little things you need to get done
* Make lists for other people (co-workers, friends, family)
* Share lists with the world ("My favorite movies of 2004")
* Subscribe to your lists in RSS so you're always on track

My wife reformatted her Windows XP box yesterday due to various registry problems it had picked up over time. While downloading new copies of various freeware programs she uses, she stumbled across this nifty screensaver. My Pictures 3D Screensaver takes a directory of pictures on your hard drive and displays them on the walls of a 3D gallery. When the screensaver activates, it walks through the gallery displaying your pictures in a nifty 3D setting. It comes with two galleries and you can download others (although my wife has yet to figure out how to make downloaded galleries work).

Deep Paint 2.0 is an older version of Deep Paint 3D which Right Hemisphere USA has made available as freeware on Download.com. Deep Paint, like Corel Painter, is intended to allow an artist to paint on the monitor screen like they were painting on canvas. This program once sold for a few hundred dollars.

HeroQuest is a turn based computer game in a fantasy setting. It was inspired on MB's and Games Workshop's boardgame 'HeroQuest' and is a modern remake of the old DOS version of the boardgame published in the early 1990s, only for Windows and with better graphics. The game focuses on four different heroes working through various quests, encountering foes ranging from goblins to chaos warriors. You can play the original campaign, additional quests created by other players or take a single character into the self generating random dungeon.

Urban Terror 4 is a "total conversion" for Quake 3 Arena. Unlike most First Person Shooter mods, Urban Terror does not require that you own a copy of the original Quake 3 Arena game to play. If you do not own a copy of of the commercial game, you can download ioUrbanTerror -- created from the open source version of the Quake 3 code. Downloading ioUrbanTerror only adds about 6 megs to the 550 meg Urban Terror 5 download.
