CoLT -- Copy Link Text Firefox Extension

Posted on Friday, June 02, 2006 at 8:30 PM by Randall

It's easy to copy a link location in Firefox, right click on the link, select copy link location in the popup menu, and the url associated with the link appears on the clipboard ready to be pasted elsewhere. Copying the text of the link is another story, you have to highlight it without clicking it and then copy it. I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one who either clicks the link or selects too much/too little text. At least one other person does this: the author of the CoLT extension for Firefox.

ColT adds two items to the popup menu when you right click a link in Firefox. The first, "Copy Link Text" copies the text of the link to the clipboard. The second, "Copy Link Text and Location" copies both the text and the url of link to the clipboard either as text, as a HTML link, or in a custom format you can define. While this many not sound like much, I expect CoLT will be one of my most used extensions. Thanks to Jonah Bishop for coding this wonderful extension.
