3tunes -- Record Music From Pandora in FireFox

Note: 3tunes no longer seems to work and the programmer seems to have dropped the project. See Pandora's Jar for a possible replacement. [September 24, 2006]
If you like music, you've probably heard of Pandora, a streaming music discovery web application. You give it an artist or a song and creates an online radio station based on that artist or song -- finding and playing songs it considers similar. Pandora generally does a good job understanding "similar" so it's a great way to discover new songs and artists you might like. If you have used Pandora much, you may even know how to save the songs it plays by copying and renaming the files the Pandora Flash application temporarily stores on your computer. 3tunes is a program that automates the copy and rename process. It's in a somewhat klunky to use alpha state at the moment, but it does work well if you are careful -- and the designer promises most of the klunkiness will go away in future versions.
From the 3tunes web site:
3tunes is a time-shifting application for the website Pandora.com. It grabs the music information from the titlebar of Mozilla Firefox and then saves the music with the correct track information, in the format of %artist% - %title%.mp3.
The current release of 3tunes is in a very alpha-like state. It has simple functionality, but is not fool proof. Please refer to the documentation for current restrictions and usage of 3tunes.
You do have to read the documentation to get 3tunes to work, but even with the limitations of the current alpha versions, 3tunes is a useful program. Assuming the author is able to work out the kinks in future versions as he hopes, 3tunes should shape up to be a very nice little program. I did not give 3tunes a star rating as that would be unfair to the program given its early alpha state.
