FotoTagger -- Annotate Pictures with Tags

Posted on Wednesday, May 03, 2006 at 3:30 PM by Randall

FotoTagger is an image annotation tool. It allows you to place textual annotations on JPG pictures. For example, You can label all the people you never can remember. The text is stored in XML format inside the JPG picture. Unless you save the picture with annotations on, they will only display when the picture is viewed in FotoTagger -- so tagging your pictures with additional information does not ruin them for other uses.

Here are some of FotoTagger's features:

* Place movable comments directly on a picture
* Add a caption for an image
* Insert links to Web resources
* Support for .JPG images
* Hide comments in one click
* Search specified comments across image collections|
* Perform basic image editing operations, like resizing and rotating directly in FotoTagger
* Merge comments with an image to let everyone who has no FotoTagger view comments
* Publish annotated images to a blog at Blogger.com
* Send annotated pictures by email
* Export comments to XML

FotoTagger is one of the more useful graphics programs I've seen in a while. While there are lots of programs for organizing pictures and for editting pictures, there aren't many for recording information about pictures in a way that travels with the picture when it is saved or copied -- yet does not interfere with other uses of the picture.
