Samurize -- System Monitoring and Desktop Enhancement
Posted on Wednesday, April 05, 2006 at 8:19 PM by Randall
A lot of people seem to like to monitor their computer system constantly so they can know just how much memory they are using or how full their hard drive is from moment to moment. I admit that I just don't get the need for this -- and I'm considered a geek by most people. I guess I'm just not geeky enough. Samurize is one of the oldest and best system monitors for Windows. Unlike many such programs, Samurize has a low memory and processor footprint, so monitoring your system doesn't slow your system to a crawl.
Samurize is a skinable application. Skinning can be complex. However, there are a lot of skins out there (see these screenshots for examples) for download, so you don't have to do it yourself. There are also a host of plugins available which add additional features to this application.
The basic features of Samurize include:
an unrivalled set of built-in meters (Disk utilization, CPU usage, network traffic, system temperatures...)
ultimate customizing and skinning possibilities with no programming knowledge required
monitoring your own computer or others over a network
tiny memory footprint and CPU usage
the first system monitoring tool with a true WYSIWYG editor
full extensibility via scripts and plugins with a powerful plugin SDK/API
minimal software requirements (no .NET or Service Packs necessary)
multimonitor support
many usage options (desktop, taskbar and clock clients, server outputting to XML or image formats, screensaver)
If you are into monitoring your computer system in real time, Samurize is definitely worth a look. I'll be a wimp and just use task manager.
