About this Site
The Software Gadgets blog lists interesting programs and online services for your computer -- most free, although a few shareware and commercial programs I really like make it into the listings. Programs and online services are listed because the author uses them or at least thinks others might want to. Unless mentioned otherwise in a specific post, the author receives nothing from the program's owners or resellers for the post.
This blog started out listing Windows programs but expanded to include Linux programs in 2008 after the author, Randall Stukey, switched his system from Windows XP (running Ubuntu 7.04 in a VMWare virtual machine) to Ubuntu 7.10 (now Ubuntu 8.04) running Windows XP in a VirtualBox virtual machine in late 2007. In 2009, the author switched back to Windows XP as his main OS running andLinux as co-Linux process -- in other words he is running both XP and Kubuntu 9.04 at the same time with one desktp shared between them.
The Software Gadgets blog started out a few years ago using Thingamablog to generate the blog. Late in 2006, Software Gadgets switched to Wordpress. All the old Thingamablog posts are still available, however.
