Taskbar Shuffle 2.0 - Rearrange Programs on Your Taskbar (Revisited)
I first discovered Taskbar Shuffle — and wrote about it in this blog entry — in May. This program lets you “drag and drop the programs on your Windows taskbar by simply… well, dragging and dropping them!” I downloaded version 1.0 and it worked so well that I never thought to check for updates. Therefore, I was surprised to discover this morning (via Lifehacker) that Taskbar Shuffle was now at version 2.0 — and I had missed versions 1.1 and 1.5 completely.
There have been a lot of minor bug fixes and a number of improvements since I downloaded my copy last May. The biggest change is that the program now works in Windows 95, 98, NT, and 2000 as well as in Windows XP. You can also turn off the splash screen and system tray icon. Button grouping options have also been added — with options that might make this a bit more useful than the default (and annoying) grouping used by Windows XP. Graphic effects when you drag a button have improved as well.
Most importantly, however, Taskbar Shuffle still just works. You can install it and be using it to rearrange your taskbar buttons in 30 seconds. No training needed as it works just like you would expect, grab a taskbar button, drag it where you want it to be on your taskbar and drop it. If you regularly have to work with multiple programs, this little desktop enhancement is wonderful. You can arrange the taskbar buttons for those programs the same way every time you use them and change programs without have to play hunt the button on the taskbar.
