nMacro Recorder — Keystroke and Mouse Movement Macros

I occasionally get requests for very specific software, but I never expected a recent request as I found the original program next to useless: the Windows 3.1 macro recorder. This was a very simple program that would record keystrokes and mouse movement/clicks and play them back. Apparently there were two views on the program. One either thought it was great or thought it was useless. It looks like only a small minority thought it was useful as it disappeared with the release of Windows 95 and never returned. Those who thought it was useful have apparently been searching for a replacement ever since.

After a lot of searching, I discovered nMacro Recorder. This is a small, free, and most importantly, simple to use, macro program that records keystrokes and mousing much like the old Windows 3.1 program. Unlike the Windows 3.1 macro recorder, nMacro Recorder saves each macro as a small file that executes the macro when it is double clicked. This was close enough in function to satisfy the person who emailed me, so I decided this software quest was successful. If you are one of those people who both remember and miss the the old Windows 3.1 macro recorder program, give nMacro Recorder a try, it just might do the trick.
